It’s Thanksgiving week here in the U. S. so what better time to pause and appreciate all that we have in our lives, on every level – to literally “count our blessings.” Let’s not wait until Thursday, we can start today.
(Some people) have a wonderful capacity to
appreciate again and again, freshly and
naively, the basic good of life, with awe,
with pleasure, wonder, and even ecstasy.
Gratitude is one of the sweet shortcuts
to finding peace of mind and happiness
inside. No matter what is going on out
side of us, there’s always something
we could be grateful for.
~Barry Neil Kaufman~
There is a calmness to a life lived
in gratitude, a quiet joy.
~Ralph H. Blum~
There was an article in the New York Times today about gratitude. It mentioned two studies that were done in which people kept ‘gratitude journals’. Compared to the control group, the people who kept the journals were more optimistic, happier, had fewer physical problems and spent more time working out. They also fell asleep more quickly at night, slept longer and woke up feeling more refreshed.
What’s in your gratitude journal?
