Old Friends

It takes a long time
to grow an old friend.

~John Leonard~

Friendships are such an important part of a fulfilling and joyous life.  I have been blessed with wonderful friends throughout my life and am grateful for knowing each of  them.   Although I have lost touch with so many of these people, I continue to carry them in my heart, because in some way, each and every one has helped shape who I am today.   The amazing friends I have in my life now continue to inspire and motivate,  and help me to unearth my true self.

What I want to share with you today is a friendship that has lasted for more than 80 years.  My Mom and her friend Ione, both 91, have been friends since the 4th grade.  Today they live a few doors away from each other in the same apartment complex.  They often spend evenings reminiscing – just imagine all the memories they have to share.  I love that they can remember for each other – what one might forget the other recalls – the beauty of a friendship that has stood the test of time.

A friend knows the song in my heart and
sings it to me when my memory fails.

~Donna Roberts~

FYI:  My Mom is the woman on the right, Ione on the left, in the first photo.   The strong guy with the great smile holding them is Ione’s late husband, Jack.  I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out who’s who in the other photos.

Don’t forget to celebrate your friendships.
